Star Wars Books and the new Canon

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm one of the many changes they made out the gate was to close the books (so-to-speak) on what’s referred to as the Star Wars EU or Extended Universe. This was made up of books and comics written throughout the decades since the first film debuted.

Each of these works helped to set the foundation for all that we knew and loved about the galaxy “Far, far away”, and fostered a culture immersed in it’s brand of space opera.

Luckily this wasn’t an end so much as a new beginning, allowing for new creativity and innovative ways to tell the story and extend it into the foreseeable future. A new wave of books kicked off the Journey to the Force Awakens in 2015, and we’ve so much excitement for each that they continue to be requested in droves.

Personally I was hesitant to buy into the Disney vision for Star Wars in the beginning, but after having read most of the books release, seen the movies, and watched the variety of animated series I can see a path to a much larger plan for the new content… and am super excited about it all!

This post is a kick-off to what I hope to be a running series of blog’s and video’s on the subject, starting with a list of the books written to date that help establish a much larger picture of the Star Wars universe and those stories we love. It’s not intended to be a complete list, but one I plan to continue to update in the future.

I’ve linked to my favorite of them so far, would love to hear what you think of them all.
